In Mexico City, the traditional representation of the Passion of Christ took place, with more than 50,000 attendees in attendance. Mayor Aleida Alavez Ruiz emphasized that the operation was carried out in coordination with various federal and local institutions, with a presence at key points to guide and assist attendees. She also highlighted the importance of international recognition, considering it confirms the symbolic, historical, and community value of this representation. According to reports, security personnel prevented access to areas that were already saturated, allowing only entry to people with a badge or accreditation. This measure caused dissatisfaction among some attendees, who began to push and throw objects, creating moments of tension. The situation forced the reinforcement of police presence at various points along the route. Beyond the altercations, the representation brought together thousands of people who followed the procession through the eight neighborhoods of Iztapalapa to Cerro de la Estrella. The 183rd Representation of the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Christ in Iztapalapa concluded amidst contrasts: on the one hand, the devotion of thousands of attendees who accompanied the Via Crucis to Cerro de la Estrella; on the other, moments of tension arising from overcrowding in certain areas of the route. The traditional staging acquired a special character after being recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, which increased attendance and national and international attention. Clashes over access control were recorded during the day when capital police and neighbors faced off.
